The main activities of the National Museum of Cambodia include exhibiting, safeguarding and promoting understanding of Cambodia’s cultural and artistic treasures. Keeping objects safe and working to ensure the repatriation of pieces stolen from Cambodia are important aspects of the museum’s work, particularly as looting and illicit export of cultural material are a continuing concern. In addition, the Museum strives to engage its visitors through its exhibitions and to fulfil its role as an integral part of the community. The Museum believes that Cambodia’s cultural heritage is of great value and can provide a source of pride and identity to the Cambodian people who have lost so much in recent decades. The availability of multilingual Museum tour guides and Publications, as well as the Museum’s public library, all serve to increase the accessibility of the collection both for local and international visitors.

The National Museum of Cambodia houses one of the world’s greatest collections of Khmer cultural material including sculpture, ceramics and ethnographic objects from the prehistoric, pre-Angkorian, Angkorian and post-Angkorian periods.

The Museum promotes awareness, understanding and appreciation of Cambodia’s heritage through the presentation, conservation, safekeeping, interpretation and acquisition of Cambodian cultural material. It aims to educate and inspire its visitors.

If you’re looking for the best international steaks sourced directly from suppliers in the United States, Australia and Argentina, to name a few, Steve’s is the only place you’ll find it in Phnom Penh.

We want to know exactly where our steaks come from and how they get here so that’s why Steve’s steakhouse sidesteps the middleman to bring the world’s most succulent T-bone’s, Rib-eye and tenderloins directly to your plate.

The same philosophy is applied to local cattle and here at Steve’s we’re proud to rear our very own beef, fed with a rich mixture of grain, corn and grass, at a family farm in the nearby agricultural province, Kandal.

Complementing the naturally rich flavor of Cambodian cattle with tender western care and agricultural know-how, Steve has unearthed the full potential of the Kingdom’s underappreciated livestock.

Back in our kitchen, Steve’s chefs are dedicated to producing fresh, generously portioned steaks, ever aware there’s only one person who can judge exactly how a steak should be cooked – you.

Originally opened in 2002, Cafe Fresco relaunched in November 2005 in its current location on the ground floor of the FCC Phnom Penh.

A deli, bakery and coffee shop, Cafe Fresco’s vision is to provide a world-class coffee shop and eatery.

“Cafe Fresco originated out of the need for a quality coffee shop in Phnom Penh,” says owner and founder Anthony Alderson. “That’s the main message: contemporary design and absolutely great coffee. We’ve brought in Illy — an Italian gourmet coffee — and trainers from Thailand to come teach the art and science involved in making coffee. We’ve worked hard to make sure we have a world-class product.”

Cafe Fresco is open every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Read more about Cafe Fresco in the January 2006 issue of The Wires, the FCC Cambodia monthly newsletter.

Cafe Fresco Riverside, 361 Sisowath Quay. Open 7am – 9pm. For delivery call 069 235 222.
Cafe Fresco BKK, corner of St 51 and St. 306. Open 7am – 7pm. For delivery call 010 992 366.

Offering dishes from both the French and the Asian cuisines, this restaurant has become quite a popular neighborhood hub. The prices are very reasonable – a three course meal for a mere USD6. In addition, the restaurant also caters and delivers food. So don’t miss out on this unique dining experience!

Pon Lok does a good business, but it has received mixed reviews about the quality of their food, as well as the price. Nonetheless, Pon Lok is a good place to try local delicacies in a friendly atmosphere. The staff speak reasonable English to advise you on your menu, from whole steamed fish to Chinese-influenced favorites such as sweet-and-sour chicken. This upstairs restaurant is blessed with one of town’s best views over the Tonle Sap River. Inside, white tiles predominate under whirling ceiling fans.

Formerly, named “Ponlok”, P& K is the new Ponlok, owned and operated by the youngest sibling of the family. The restaurant continues to serve the same Khmer, Chinese and Thai cuisines as it did under the previous name. If you’re looking for delicious traditional Khmer food and some exotic local delicacies such as cow tongue and/or tripe with fermented fish sauce dip, look no further!

Featuring an extensive range of cookies, from the exotic spices to the ubiquitious chocolate chip cookies, there is bound to be one cookie that suits your taste buds!

Scroll through the photos of our shelf range below to find out more.

Our Values and Social Causes

Camory was started by a group of Cambodian and International friends after a humanitarian outreach programme to Cambodia. Realizing that providence for sustainable livelihoods is a better solution to the poverty witnessed by them, they then started Camory, a social enterprise.

Camory is dedicated towards providing disadvantaged individuals livelihoods. Our bakers come from mostly impoverished backgrounds, and are taken in to be trained as professionals in our kitchen.

At the same time, the Camory team believes in sowing seeds for the future, and helps fund the education of poor and orphaned children housed under a local NGO, New Cambodian Childrens’ Life Association (NCCLA).

Background

Founded by a group of like-minded Cambodians and International friends in 2006, Camory was a brainchild developed to provide sustainable livelihoods to the disadvantaged and the impoverished in Cambodia.

Receipes were developed with the help of Executive Chefs from The Legends, Fort Canning, Singapore, drawing inspiration from the freshest agricultural produce indigenous to Cambodia. Traditional Western Baking is then given a modern twist by infusing Cambodian flavors into these exquisitely hand crafted cookies.

The Camory Cookie Boutique opened its doors and started operations on the 7th of July 2007 at 7pm. It was officially opened by the Singapore Ambassador to Cambodia, Her Excellency Ms Tan Yee Woan, on 25th of July 2007
